Dear students and parents,

Due to technical issues with our new grading system, we will be postponing our annual National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society Inductions to the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year in the hopes that all issues will be resolved and to make sure all data is completely accurate.

When the time comes, students will be given an invitation to apply to become a member of one of the honor societies within the first couple of weeks of school if their grade point average is above a 3.7 for high school students or a 90 average for junior high students. Students applications, grades, faculty evaluations, and discipline will be evaluated by a 5-member faculty panel who will determine if those students who have submitted applications meet the standards of Honor Society members as determined by the National Council. Students will be invited to be inducted into an Honor Society if they demonstrate good scholarship, character, citizenship, service, and leadership according to those national standards. Please click this link for more information.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Cortez at tcortez@harmonytx.org.

Students, Parents/Guardians, and Teachers:

While Science Fair is still on your mind and before the 2017-18 academic year winds down, we wanted to “talk”  Science Fair 2018-19.  One of the greatest struggles for everyone is coming up with a valid competitive research question.  We have support for this!

Please join us on the evening of May 21st (2018) for a “meet the experts” opportunity.  On that Monday between 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm experts will be available to talk with and advise students, parents/guardians or teachers about potential research for their science fair projects.  This evening will be a booth-type event, where each ISEF Category will be represented by a knowledgeable professional. Anyone can get feedback on their research idea or get help in choosing a research question to pursue.  The Central Texas Science and Engineering Fair (CTSEF) staff will also be available to answer your regional science fair participation questions.  The attached flyer has more details and a link to the ISEF subcategories.
The evening is a come and go event, with light snacks. We hope you’ll join us.  Please feel free to share and invite others.

Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Initiative (T-STEM)

Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies are rigorous secondary schools focusing on improving instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects and increasing the number of students who study and enter STEM careers. T-STEM Academies are demonstration schools and learning labs that develop innovative methods to improve science and mathematics instructions.

Prior to the 2011-2012 school year, the only path to become a T-STEM Academy was a T-STEM Academy grant through the Texas Education Agency or one of the private partners in the Texas High School Project.

Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, a second pathway was created. Campuses, using local or other sources of funding, that are implementing the T-STEM Design Blueprint with fidelity may apply to be designated as a T-STEM Academy. T-STEM campuses are designated based on a rigorous designation process. Once a campus is designated, professional development and technical assistance are provided to designated T-STEM academies to serve as demonstration schools and learning labs to showcase innovative instruction methods which integrate technology and engineering into science and mathematics instruction. Designated T-STEM campuses serve students in grades 6-12 or 9-12.
